English soccer fans honor George Michael during Manchester United match

A day after the death of George Michael, English soccer fans found a way to pay tribute to the late singer. During Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Sunderland, fans began singing the Wham! classic, Last Christmas to honor Michael, who passed away on Sunday.

The tribute did not only honor Michael, though.

“Sunderland’s fans appeared to have changed the words of the song to honor their young fan Bradley Lowery who has been battling cancer with the latest diagnosis saying the rare form of cancer was terminal,” Joe Prince-Wright of NBC Sports said.

Lowery’s story was detailed by Wright following Sunderland’s December 16 match against Chelsea.

It would be better to live in a world where such tributes weren’t necessary. Unfortunately, the nature of the world (especially, so it seems, in 2016) makes that impossible. When bad news does occur, it’s refreshing to see so many people come together to try to make the world a little brighter.
