The Houston Dynamo signed free agent defender Brad Smith to a two-year contract with club options for the 2025 and 2026 seasons on Friday.

Smith, 28, previously played for the Seattle Sounders (2018-21) and D.C. United (2022). He started 22 of 25 games for Seattle in 2019 when the club won the MLS Cup.

“Brad is an experienced international left back with a history of winning in our league,” Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad said in a news release. “He brings an extra attacking element to our left back position, valuable competition in our backline, and a winning pedigree to our locker room. We are excited to welcome Brad and his family to Houston.”

Smith has scored three goals in MLS, all coming in 2021, and tallied 12 career assists in 79 games (63 starts).

Smith was limited to 16 games (14 starts) with D.C. United last year due to a season-ending knee injury.

Smith has also made 23 appearances for the Australian national team, most recently in 2021.
