Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski will miss Wednesday night’s game at Wake Forest “due to a non-COVID related virus,” the school announced.

Associate head coach Jon Scheyer will search as acting coach in the Atlantic Coast Conference matchup between the No. 8 Blue Devils and Demon Deacons.

This marks the second time that Scheyer has acted as the team’s head coach. On Jan. 6, 2021, Krzyzewski was in quarantine after members of his family tested positive for COVID-19 and Scheyer guided the Blue Devils to an 83-82 home victory over Boston College

Krzyzewski, 74, announced last June that this season — his 42nd on the bench in Durham, N.C. — would be his last as the Blue Devils’ head coach.

Not long after Coach K’s announcement, Duke announced that Scheyer, a former Duke player, would succeed Krzyzewski. Scheyer, 34, has been an assistant at his alma mater since 2014.

Duke (12-2, 2-1 ACC) fell from No. 2 in the rankings after a 76-74 home loss to Miami on Saturday. Wake Forest (13-3, 3-2) has won two straight games at home in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Freshman Paolo Banchero leads the Blue Devils in scoring and rebounding at 17.3 points and 7.5 boards per game.
