Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs pleaded guilty to careless driving on Wednesday as a driving under the influence charge was dropped.
The office of Steve Wolfson, the district attorney in Clark County, Nev., said further analysis showed Hobbs wasn’t legally impaired when he was found asleep behind the wheel of his car in the exit lane of a Las Vegas parking garage on Jan. 3.
“After reviewing the facts of the case, and the fact that the result of the blood-alcohol test placed Mr. Hobbs under the legal limit for a DUI charge, my office determined that this was the most appropriate disposition in this case,” Wolfson said in a news release.
Hobbs will pay a $685 fine, attend a victim impact panel meeting and complete 20 hours of community service, per the news release. If he doesn’t, he will face one month in jail.
He also must take part in an alcohol treatment program provided by the NFL and the players association.
Hobbs is due to return to court on March 23. He also has a pending reckless driving citation issued by the Nevada Highway Patrol in a separate case.
The Raiders selected Hobbs in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He appeared in 16 games (nine starts) and recorded 74 tackles (three for loss), one sack, four quarterback hits, one interception, three passes defensed and one forced fumble.
