Draymond Green, who was suspended indefinitely by the NBA on Dec. 13 will soon start working out again at the Golden State Warriors facility in preparation to play again, according to an ESPN report.
Green was suspended for taking a swing at Jusuf Nurkic of the Phoenix Suns.
He was suspended earlier in the season for putting Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert in a chokehold.
Green has played in 15 games this season because of the two suspensions and is averaging 9.7 points and 5.5 rebounds.
The Warriors have gone 6-5 since Green was suspended.
Draymond Green is going through counseling as part of suspension
Green was instructed to undergo counseling for his issues. After the counseling, Green will have to be cleared by NBA commissioner Adam Silver before he can return to the team.
According to the report, Green’s agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul; Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.; team trainer Rick Celebrini; and NBPA and NBA officials are part of the counseling sessions. Green has also been part of virtual meetings with league and players association officials, according to the report, to gauge his progress.
To replace Green in the lineup, the Warriors have turned to Jonathan Kuminga. Kuminga has averaged 12.7 points and 4.1 rebounds, but he doesn’t fill the facilitator role that Green had and the Warriors miss Green on defense.
The Warriors said recently hey are continuing to support Green, who signed a four-year, $100 million contract in the offseason.
