West Virginia introduced new basketball coach Darian DeVries on Thursday, and he confirmed that his son will transfer to the school.

Tucker DeVries also announced on social media that he is moving on to the Mountaineers for his senior season, posting a photo in a West Virginia uniform with the words, “Let’s do it! #Mountaineers.”

The elder DeVries spent six seasons as the head coach at Drake before behind hired to lead the Mountaineers. Tucker was Drake’s leading scorer in the 2023-24 season, averaging 21.6 points as well as a team-leading 3.7 assists and 6.7 rebounds.

The 6-foot-7 player averaged 18.0 points, 2.5 assists and 5.6 rebounds in three seasons at Drake. Earlier this month, he was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

After receiving a No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament, Drake’s season ended with a 66-61 loss to No. 7 Washington State in the first round.

Darian DeVries takes over for Josh Eilert, who spent the 2023-24 season as West Virginia’s interim coach after longtime coach Bob Huggins resigned following a DUI arrest. The Mountaineers went 9-23 (4-14 Big 12).
