In a somewhat shocking move the Miami Dolphins have signed young cornerback Xavien Howard to a record-setting five-year, $76.5 million contract with $46 million in guarantees.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, this makes Howard the highest-paid cornerback in the history of the NFL.
Howard, 25, has been absolutely sensational over the past two seasons. This span has seen him record 25 passes defended and 11 interceptions en route to yielding a sub 75 passer rating in the process.
Howard’s average of $15.3 million ranks No. 1 among NFL cornerbacks ahead of Washington Redskins veteran Josh Norman. He’s also first in guarantees and total contract value.
