What can the Detroit Pistons trade? Can Pistons move some assets?

Pistons trade: players that could be moved

Are there some assets for a possible Detroit Pistons trade to help make things better for this team?

Detroit has a few expiring contracts it could work with. The most appealing player is Bojan Bogdanovic, who might be the best player on the team not named Cade Cunningham.

The Pistons have four players on expiring deals.

  • Alec Burks, guard/forward
  • Joe Harris, guard/forward
  • Monte Morris, point guard
  • James Wiseman, center

The 34-year-old Bojan Bogdanovic has played for five NBA teams and is putting up his best scoring numbers this season with Detroit.

In 11 games, he is averaging 19.9 points and is shooting 47% from the floor.

His $19 million contract next season is only guaranteed for $2 million

Another well-traveled player, Alec Burks has played for seven teams since entering the league in 2011-12 season. At 32, he’s probably good for 17-20 minutes per game.

He is making $10.5 million this season and is in the final year of his contract. Could be a good way for a team to wipe salary off the books and/or re-sign him on the cheap.

Joe Harris

A former starter with Brooklyn, Joe Harris could bring some punch off the bench for a contender. Harris led the league in 3-point shooting percentage in 2018-19 and 2020-21, shooting 47.4% and 47.5%, respectively.

He might not have the same touch, but he has only attempted 24 for Detroit.

His contract is pretty big, at $19.9 million, but it is expiring. Detroit could move him to a team looking to dump long-term salaries by the deadline.

Monte Morris

Monte Morris was acquired from the Washington Wizards for a future draft pick. He was supposed to come in and be a veteran ball handling presence to help with the Pistons’ young backcourt.

But, because of what the team calls a quad strain, he has yet to play a game. Morris was projected to come back on a couple of occasions, but now Detroit says he won’t return until February.

He is on an expiring contract, making $9.8 million, and could be a good candidate to move to a team in need of depth at the guard position.

James Wiseman

Less than two weeks after scoring a season-high 20 points, James Wiseman has begun to look more like the draft bust everyone thinks he is, by scoring two points in the last 27 minutes he has been on the floor.

Wiseman is still just 22 years old and he is 7-feet tall. But he has yet to show any evidence that he can be a consistent NBA player.

The bad news is that he’s making $12.1 million this season in the final year of his deal. The best hope is that a team just wants to dump his salary and might make a move for him. But, Detroit will get very little in return.

2024 First round: Detroit will keep its first-round pick if it is 1-18. If it’s 19-30, it goes to the New York Knicks.

Second round: Detroit’s second-round pick goes to the Knicks. The Pistons will get the more favorable pick from either Memphis or Washington. Most likely, it will be Washington’s pick.

2025: First round: (if the Pistons keep the 2024 pick) Detroit will keep its first-round pick if it is 1-13. If it’s 14-30, it goes to the Knicks.

Second round: Detroit will keep its second-round pick if it’s 31-55.

2026: First round: (if the Pistons keep the 2024 and 2025 pick) Detroit will keep its first-round pick if it is 1-9. If it’s 10-30, it goes to the Knicks.

Second round: Detroit will lose its pick if it’s better than Orlando’s. The Pistons get either Minnesota’s or New York’s pick, depending on some requirements that are met.
