Linebacker Demarcus Ware recently suggested that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo would be “a great fit for the Denver Broncos,” per Conor Orr of NFL.com. He should know having spent nine seasons working with Romo in Dallas.
However, Ware addressed the potential of a Romo-Broncos partnership on Friday and had a different take regarding the team’s quarterback situation.
“I would like to reunite with Romo,” Ware said, per Good Morning Football. “He’s one of those quarterbacks where he’s good but the thing is, I know what we have with the Denver Broncos and you gotta go with what you have. Play with what you got and just roll with it.”
The Broncos are most definitely at a vulnerable place at the quarterback position, boasting struggling starter Trevor Siemian and soon-to-be second-year backup Paxton Lynch. Whether the Broncos want to head into 2017 with these two quarterbacks vying for the starting job remains to be seen.
As for Ware, he will be a free agent, but still wants to play in the league, per the report. The veteran linebacker is 34 years old and is coming off a down season. He started in only eight games, registering four sacks and 15 combined tackles in the process.
It is possible that the Broncos could decide to move on from Ware. If so, that could mean a reunion isn’t in the cards even if Romo does somehow land in Denver.
