DeAnna Price set a world record while winning the women’s weight throw championship on Friday at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships in Albuquerque.
Price’s decisive throw of 26.02 meters (85 feet, 4 1/4 inches) topped the old mark of 25.60 meters (83 feet, 11 3/4 inches) set by Gwen Berry in the same event six years ago.
Weight throw is the indoor equivalent of hammer throw, at which Price won the 2019 World Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Brooke Andersen came in second behind Price on Friday at 24.97 meters (81 feet, 11 1/4 inches), and Rachel Tanczos placed third at 24.58 meters (80 feet, 7 3/4 inches).
Steven Bastien won the men’s heptathlon with a total of 6,012 points after closing with a victory in the 1,000 meters. Will Daniels came in second at 5,946, and Devon Williams placed third at 5,898, having won the 60-meter hurdles.
Donald Scott captured the men’s triple jump title with a leap of 16.96 meters (55 feet, 7 3/4 inches). He was followed by Omar Craddock at 16.38 meters (53 feet, 9 inches) and R’Lazon Brumfield at 16.14 meters (52 feet, 11 1/2 inches).
Tara Davis Woodhall produced the longest women’s long jump of the year with a personal-best 6.99 meters (22 feet, 11 1/4 inches). Rhesa Foster took second place at 6.63 meters (21 feet, 9 inches), and Tiffany Flynn captured third at 6.57 meters (21 feet, 6 3/4 inches).
Valerie Constien barely edged Whittni Morgan to win the women’s 3,000 meters in 8 minutes, 48.29 seconds. Morgan finished 0.13 seconds back. Emily Mackay took third at 8:50.14.
Vashti Cunningham equaled her personal best while winning the women’s high jump at 2 meters (6 feet, 6 3/4 inches). Nissi Kabongo and Mercedeez Francis both produced personal bests of 1.87 meters (6 feet, 1 1/2 inches), with Kabonga taking second place and Francis third.
Daniel Haugh prevailed in the men’s weight throw at 25.44 meters (83 feet, 5 3/4 inches). Alex Young took second at 24.25 meters (79 feet, 6 3/4 inches), and Rudy Winkler placed third at 23.88 meters (78 feet, 4 1/4 inches).
