The road for David Price has been bumpy since signing a seven-year, $217 million deal with the Boston Red Sox ahead of the 2017 season.
According to Price, he’s been “blown up” for both not talking to the media, as well as being honest. So, he’s found a solution.
Price told Dan Shaughnessy of The Boston Globe that he’ll talk to the media on his start days, but won’t be taking personal interviews. The entire interview can be read here behind a partial paywall, but Price’s quote was tweeted by Evan Drellich of CSN New England.

Ultimately, how well his is received will depend on how Price pitches.
While Price posted a decent record in 2016 (17-9), his 3.99 ERA left a lot to be desired and was 90 points worse than his career mark entering the season. He also struggled in his lone postseason start, failing to make it out of the fourth inning.
If Price continues down that path, he’ll continue to be blown up by fans and media alike. That’s how things work, especially in notorious pressure cooker cities like Boston.
If, however, he turns things around and pitches well in some big regular season and especially playoff games, then it will be hard for anyone to second guess this strategy.
