Despite NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s primary goal of making New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady pay for his alleged cheating role in “Deflategate,” many feel the scandal is frivolous waste of time.
This is especially because “Deflategate” is now dragging out into its second summer in a row.
Not getting what all of the fuss is about, Brady’s fellow Bostonian athlete, Red Sox David Ortiz shared his blunt opinion on the scandal.
“I think it’s stupid, to be honest with you, Ortiz said during a Q&A with Andy Gray of SI.com. “Put it this way: You’re talking about the one player that everybody wants to watch play. We’re not just talking about any player. We’re talking about Tom Brady. If I turn on the TV on Sunday to watch a Patriots game and I know that Tom Brady is not playing, I would turn off the TV. I don’t want to watch that game.”
Ortiz isn’t the only professional athlete or celebrity to throw his back behind the NFL’s golden boy. Brady has garnered the support of some big names including presidential candidate Donald Trump, actor Mark Wahlberg, and his own teammate Julian Edelman, just to name a few.
Brady’s four-game suspension was recalled in 2015 and has now been reinstated. The quarterback has since filed another appeal in a last-ditch attempt to have the suspension revoked or reduced.
If unsuccessful, “Big Papi” will have the choice of watching young Jimmy Garoppolo for the first four weeks of the season or turning off his television, as he threatened to do. Obviously, the Brady/suspension storyline for the upcoming season will be one we all hope will finally be put to rest soon enough.
At this point, Brady himself probably feels as if he landed the starring role in the movie “Groundhog Day Two.”
