Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys now have a hole to fill at defensive coordinator after Dan Quinn accepted the head coach job with the division-rival Washington Commanders.
Quinn’s departure is not necessarily too surprising given that he’s been a candidate for that role over the past couple head coach cycles.
But the veteran coach did lead two consecutive top-five defenses. Replacing him is going to be no small thing for embattled head coach Mike McCarthy. Despite some struggles in the NFL Wild Card Playoffs, Quinn did his thing with the Cowboys.
So, what will the Cowboys do to replace the highly-respected head coach? We might have an answer.

Mike Zimmer interested in Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator job
This is a very interesting addition to the Cowboys’ search for a new defensive coordinator. It’s also as real as they come.
Zimmer’s NFL coaching career started as an assistant coach with the Cowboys back in 1994. He was a member of the coaching stuff under a head coach in Barry Switzer that led Dallas to its last Super Bowl title following the 1995 season.
As for experience, he’s been a defensive coordinator in the NFL for 14 seasons. That span has included Zimmer leading 10 defenses that finished in the top-10 of the league.
Zimmer, 67, also posted a 72-56-1 record in eight seasons as the Minnesota Vikings’ head coach. His experience and past success would make sense as Quinn’s replacement in Big D.
