The Dallas Cowboys have developed a reputation for being a team that doesn’t have an issue taking risks on star potential. Sometimes, those decisions backfire, while other times, they help uncover hidden gems.
As the Cowboys continue looking for a way to return to the postseason, they’ll have to get comfortable taking more chances. That could even include considering other quarterbacks too.

Dallas Cowboys could be in play for Joe Milton trade

The Dallas Cowboys took their sweet time signing franchise quarterback Dak Prescott to a contract extension that now places him among the highest-paid players in the NFL. Prescott signed a four-year deal worth a whopping $240 million, and the Cowboys have him under contract through 2028.
Yet, the Cowboys did recently lose featured backup Cooper Rush to the Baltimore Ravens. Their other backup had true star potential, yet Trey Lance, a former No. 3 overall pick, hasn’t landed another contract his offseason.
However, the Cowboys’ original investment into Lance shows just how eager this franchise is to secure another young quarterback with star potential. Could we see a similar transaction this offseason? Possibly.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys are a “team to watch” to trade for New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton.
“The Patriots are exploring a trade. I’m told several teams are interested. One team to potentially watch for is the Dallas Cowboys because they are looking for a good backup, a young backup with upside they may not get in the draft, maybe they get in a trade.”

Getting Milton this offseason would give the Cowboys three full years to evaluate their new developmental prospect. While the Patriots have their franchise QB solution in Drake Maye, they may not be so eager to part with an electrifying talent like Milton.
However, a strong enough offer might just do the trick. Fowler indicates the Patriots are asking for a third-round pick.
