The arm fatigue that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been dealing with will keep him out of the team’s preseason opener.
When the 49ers take on the Houston Texans, Kaepernick will be out of action, with Blaine Gabbert starting.
#49ers announce WR Rogers, QB Kaepernick, WR Smelter, S McCray, S Reid, DL Dorsey and DL Armstead will not play in tonight's game.

How bad this news is for Kaepernick’s chances at landing the starting job remains to be seen, but it’s certainly not good.
The first preseason game would have been an outstanding chance for Kaepernick to show that 2015 is behind him and that he’s really the man for Chip Kelly’s offense. Now, Blaine Gabbert will get that opportunity instead, and he has already been reported to be a heavy favorite to start this season (more on that here).
The potential next opportunity for Kaepernick to impress Kelly and the 49ers will come next Saturday, when San Francisco goes on the road to take on the Denver Broncos.
