The long-awaited 2016 debut of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is expected to take place this Friday.
Providing there are no setbacks, Kaepernick is slated to play against the Green Bay Packers in the team’s third preseason game. Whether Kap will start or come in the game following Blaine Gabbert remains to be seen.
“We haven’t discussed it, yet,” head coach Chip Kelly said on Wednesday, per Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. “We got two days of training to go through. We’ll see. He’s on track. We’re excited and we’re hopeful he will be ready to go. But I’m not going to put the cart before the horse. We have a system. When we get to Friday, we’ll know exactly from (head athletic trainer Jeff Ferguson) who’s up and who’s down.”
According to the report, Kaepernick has practiced without a pitch count this week. All this comes on the heels of him missing the first two preseason games with a “dead arm.”
Kelly also said Kap was “sharp with all things mentally.”
Kaepernick has not started a game for the 49ers since Week 8 of the 2015 campaign. All said, he posted six touchdowns compared to five interceptions last season.
Whatever the plan is for Kaepernick on Friday, all eyes will surely be on his every move. Talk about feeling the pressure.
