CF Montreal forward Mason Toye signed a contract extension with the club through the 2024 season with an option for 2025, the team announced Saturday.

Toye, 22, arrived in Canada last October following a trade with Minnesota United.

He was seven goals in 14 games (10 starts) this season, and 14 goals and five assists over 62 games (29 starts) in four seasons.

While the extension should keep him in Montreal for years to come, Toye will not see the pitch anytime soon. The club also announced Toye will undergo shoulder surgery Tuesday after injuring his right shoulder against the New York Red Bulls on Aug. 14.

The team expects him to miss several months.

“Despite this injury and the surgery that will keep him away for several months, the club is showing its confidence in him with this contract extension,” Montreal sporting director Olivier Renard said in a statement. “We wish him a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch.”
