Cavaliers should trade Kevin Love, begin full-blown rebuild

Kevin Love

Well, now that LeBron James has made his choice, the Cleveland Cavaliers have moved from being attached to Kevin Love to suddenly being open to moving him in a trade.

According to Jason Lloyd of the Athletic, citing league sources, the Cavaliers are “open” to trading Love.

And quite honestly, they should. This team is going absolutely nowhere, and fast, now that James has moved to Los Angeles.

Who’s going to drag this team to the playoffs now that James is in the west? It’s certainly not going to be Love. And as much as we love Collin Sexton, he’s a pup and nowhere near ready to become the face of this franchise.

The best move the Cavaliers could possibly make right now is strip the roster and go for the full-blown rebuild. James is never coming back, and it’s time to look to the future or die trying.

Moreover, the team’s first-round pick next year is top-10 protected, so a tank job (on the down low, of course) is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Love is still a valuable asset who can be traded for a decent haul. But that ship will sail soon enough, so the time to make a deal is now.
