A new report claims the Carolina Panthers are interested in an NFL free agency reunion with five-time Pro Bowler Stephon Gilmore.
With the Panthers not having a pick in the opening round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the organization has looked to the free-agent and trade market to improve what was a disastrous result for the organization in 2023. So far they bolstered their offensive line in a major way with the signings of Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis. Plus, they swung a trade for Steelers problem child Diontae Johnson.

However, it seems like they aren’t done in free agency and have their sights set on using some of the over $8 million they still have available (via Over The Cap) on one of the better cornerbacks left on the open market, who also happens to be a Carolina Panthers alum.
On Tuesday, The Athletic’s Panthers reporter Joe Person revealed that the “Panthers have reached out to free agent CB Stephon Gilmore about a possible return to Charlotte” for the 2024 season. The five-time Pro Bowler played nine games for the team in 2021 after they acquired him in an offseason trade from the New England Patriots.

While Gilmore only played just over a half season with the franchise he made an impact and earned Pro Bowl honors that season. He may no longer be the elite cornerback that he once was, but he is still a strong, reliable defensive back a few months away from his 34th birthday.
