Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers are on the road at Ford Field, searching for their first win of the season, playing a red-hot Detroit Lions team on Sunday.
While the Panthers would love to lose their status as being the only team still trying to win their first game, they’d prefer to accomplish that feat with their starting left guard in the lineup.
With just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter, fourth-round rookie Chandler Zavala collapsed to the turf, requiring medical assistance before being placed on a backboard and carted off the field. He is now being evaluated for a neck injury.
Zavala’s incident led to the game being paused for several minutes as the medical crew attended to the 24-year-old offensive lineman, but positive news came when Zavala managed to give spectators a thumbs up as he was riding away.
While there is no immediate word on the severity of his condition, Zavala has since been taken to a local hospital, where he will continue to be evaluated. Zavala was starting in his fourth NFL game, and has also spent time at right guard, in addition to playing left guard too.
