Barring any setbacks in practice this week, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will make his season debut Sunday against the visiting Atlanta Falcons, coach Jonathan Gannon said Monday.

“The plan for quarterback this week: Kyler is going to continue to ramp up,” Gannon said via video from PHNX Cardinals. “He’ll take the one reps, and if the week goes well, he will start on Sunday. Pleased with where he is right now. We’ll see how the week goes.”

Murray, who should be activated Wednesday, hasn’t played since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Dec. 12 against the New England Patriots.

The Cardinals are coming off a 27-0 loss Sunday to the Cleveland Browns. After Arizona traded quarterback Joshua Dobbs to the Minnesota Vikings last Monday, rookie Clayton Tune made his first NFL start and completed 11 of 20 passes for 58 yards and two interceptions.

Murray, 26, has started all 57 games he has played over four seasons, completing 66.8 percent of his passes for 13,848 yards, 84 touchdowns and 41 interceptions. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2021, while guiding Arizona into the playoffs following the 2021 season.
