St. Louis Cardinals star catcher Yadier Molina is going on the 10-day injured list with a thumb injury, which has been diagnosed as a tendon strain.
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch shared the news Thursday, noting a “strain is a tear” and that Molina has been trying to play through the injury for a while.
Molina is a nine-time All-Star and one of the best catchers in the business, along with being one of the best human beings in the game. Offensively, he’s batting .261 with four home runs and 36 RBI this year, appearing in 71 games for the Cardinals.
Needless to say, the Cardinals are focusing on the long-term implications here keeping Molina on the shelf for now. Just two games out of first in the tight National League Central race, they will need him healthy down the stretch, to be sure.
