As the Denver Broncos work earnestly to find an answer to their franchise quarterback conundrum, they’re looking at Baker Mayfield with some keen interest.
Phil Savage, who is the Reese’s Senior Bowl Executive Director, revealed the Broncos have requested Mayfield be placed on their team during the Senior Bowl.
Interesting thing @SeniorBowlPhil just told me and @HorowitzJason on @ESPNUonSiriusXM: The Broncos staff requested that Baker Mayfield be placed on their team at the Senior Bowl.

John Elway and Co. really are under some serious pressure to get it right this time around. Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch really made a mess out of things this past season after Siemian did just enough to sort of hold things together in 2016. Lynch might still have the ability to become a franchise passer, but so far in his young career he hasn’t done anything to give the Broncos confidence he’ll develop in that way.
It’s been reported that the Broncos could be looking at the likes of Kirk Cousins in free agency. However, going that route will cost a ton of money, if he even ends up being made available — your move, Washington.
Obviously, going with a rookie would be much cheaper. So, if a guy like Mayfield shows he’s capable of handling the pressure and duties that come with being a franchise quarterback, the Broncos would be smart to look at drafting him. Having him for a week during practices and meetings, then seeing him perform in the actual Senior Bowl, would help Denver evaluate things in a big way.
