The Atlanta Braves transferred LHP Max Fried to the 60-day IL on Monday as infielder Luke Williams was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Fried, 29, has been on the injured list since early May with a left forearm strain. The National League Cy Young Award runner-up last season is coming off his first career All-Star selection with a 14-7 record and a 2.48 ERA in 2022. He was 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA in five starts this season before his injury.
In seven seasons with the Braves, Fried is 56-26 with a 3.05 ERA in 130 appearances (113 starts).
Williams, 26, had been placed on waivers by the Dodgers, who are in need of spots on the 40-man roster as multiple players near a return from the IL. The Braves optioned Williams to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Williams went 1-for-10 in 10 games for the Dodgers this season. In 141 major league games over the past three seasons with four different clubs, Williams is a .234 hitter with two home runs and 12 RBIs.
