The Toronto Blue Jays placed closer Jordan Romano on the 15-day injured list Saturday with lower back inflammation.
Romano aggravated the injury with two outs in the ninth inning of Toronto’s 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
The right-hander initially sustained the injury while warming up prior to entering the All-Star Game on July 11. He later retired one batter in the game before exiting.
Romano, 30, entered Saturday’s action tied for the American League lead in saves with 28. He also is 4-5 with a 2.79 ERA in 44 relief appearances this season.
Also on Saturday, the Blue Jays recalled right-hander Nate Pearson from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.
Pearson, 26, is 5-2 with one save and a 4.75 ERA in 29 relief appearances with Toronto this season.
