Columbus Blue Jackets rookie center Adam Fantilli will be sidelined for about eight weeks after suffering a calf laceration during Sunday’s game.
The team made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.
Fantilli, 19, suffered the injury when he was cut by a skate blade in the second period of the Blue Jackets’ loss to the Seattle Kraken. Fantilli immediately left the ice, hopping on one leg to the dressing room. He did not return.
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 draft, Fantilli was off to a sizzling start, recording 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) in 49 games. He also ranks second among rookies with 115 shots on goal.
Fantilli was just the third freshman ever to win the Hobey Baker Award as the nation’s top collegiate player in 2022-23.
