The Portland Trail Blazers said Thursday that guard Anfernee Simons has a grade 2 right ankle sprain and will be re-evaluated after the All-Star Break.

Simons was injured Tuesday night with 1.9 seconds left in third quarter of a loss to the Washington Wizards when he landed on the back of Kyle Kuzma’s foot. An MRI exam Thursday revealed the severity of the sprain.

A recovery timetable beyond this weekend was not revealed and will be determined at a later date, the Blazers said.

Simons will miss Saturday’s 3-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City. The NBA replaced Simons in the contest with Julius Randle of the New York Knicks.

In his fifth season in the NBA, all with Portland, Simons is posting career-best averages of 21.4 points, 4.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 56 games (all starts). He also has made a career-high 196 3-point baskets.

He has averaged 12.5 points and 2.5 assists per game in 267 games (91 starts) since the Blazers drafted him in the first round (24th overall) in 2018.
