The Buffalo Bills have a boatload of talented players on the offense that will want to see their fair share of the ball come September.
New Offensive coordinator Greg Roman had a pretty simple solution for what seems to be a good problem for the team.
Just get two balls. Change the rules.”
After adding LeSean McCoy, Percy Harvin and Charles Clay in the offseason, Buffalo has a tremendous amount of talent at the skill positions.
Taking on a more serious approach, Roman continued:
I mean, these guys want to win. That’s our prime directive. The stat that we care about is winning. And everybody understands that in a team sport, sometimes you’re doing the dirty work, sometimes you’re getting the glory,” the first-year Bills coordinator said. “But if it all ends up in helping the team win, then everybody benefits and it’s pretty obvious. However, I think you’ve got to have guys that are character guys and I believe that we have those guys.”
That’s easier said than done. Harvin, who had only 22 catches in five games for the Seahawks (a winning team) prior to his trade to the Jets last year, will actually have to buy into this notion for it to work.
The player out of the Bills’ offense mentioned above who certainly should see bulk touches is McCoy. The team didn’t didn’t trade a Pro Bowl-caliber player for the running back to see him on the sideline. We should expect to see McCoy’s carries top 300 this season—eventually taking a bite out of Jackson’s touches.
As for the Bills crew of capable receivers, the pressure to accurately pass the ball to these guys falls on whoever the Bills decide to cast as their starting quarterback. In this case, using a second ball may not even cut it.
