Bill Belichick and Nick Saban ‘Coachcast’? Radical idea to fix NFL legend’s image being floated around

A popular television host and NFL insider believes Bill Belichick needs to improve his image before he can land a new head coaching job, and they have a radical idea to do it with the help of legendary Alabama football coach Nick Saban.

January brought the end of two iconic eras in football. Following a loss in the college football playoffs Nick Saban decided that it was high time to call it a career at 72 years old and officially retired from the game after a legendary run at Alabama. However, the New England Patriots also ended an uncanny 24-year run when they decided to finish the illustrious tenure of Bill Belichick as head coach.

However, to the surprise of many the six-time Super Bowl winner has had a hard time finding work in 2024. Despite being laser-focused on getting the Atlanta Falcons job, the organization went in a different direction at the position, and various reports suggest he is not drawing much interest from other teams due to his desire to again have control over his next roster.

Peter King makes case for benefits in potential ‘Coachcast’ featuring Bill Belichick and Nick Saban

It is a topic that NBC Sports NFL insider Peter King opined about in a new column on Monday. However, instead of trying to link him to a specific team this year or next, King suggested the coach needs to improve his image and brought up an outlandish idea that radio/TV host Rich Eisen recently suggested that would include Belichick’s long-time pal Nick Saban.

“Rich Eisen had a good idea the other day, assuming Belichick doesn’t coach in 2024: a Belichick/Nick Saban ‘Coachcast,’ similar to the ‘Manningcast,” King wrote. “Find a network to stream it on—maybe on a CBS, Fox, or NBC streaming service, or maybe as another stream for the Thursday night Amazon Prime game. Belichick, if he wants to coach in 2025 at age 73—and if someone will have him—could use a little image rehab. America, and NFL owners, know him as dour, sour, and imperious, not great traits in modern-day coaching, particularly with a 29-39 record in his last four seasons.

“He can actually be glib and clever, in his way. Eisen said when he and Cris Collinsworth had Belichick as a co-host during the production of the NFL’s 100 Greatest Players show in 2020, Joe Greene was a guest for one session. ‘Can I ask the first question?’ Belichick asked Eisen before the segment began. Sure, Eisen said. And Belichick asked Greene: How many takes did it take to do that famous Coke commercial? So, he’s capable of cool.”

The “Manningcast” has been very successful for brother quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning. An unexpectedly entertaining simulcast with two of the greatest football coaches of all time could end up being a hit and boost the interest in Bill Belichick this time next year.
