Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made an appearance at training camp Monday, his first since having his appendix removed last week.

Burrow rode a golf cart onto the practice field to observe the session and there is still no timetable for his return to physical activity.

“It’s good to have him around and we’ll just take it day-to-day with him,” head coach Zac Taylor said Monday.

Taylor said Burrow’s attendance at Cincinnati’s training facility is voluntary at this point.

“Yeah, that’s his call to get out there,” Taylor said. “So, he feels up to it so we’ll let him get out here and spend as much time as he needs to.”

Burrow, 25, reported to training camp on July 23 and took part in two days of on-field work. After he experienced cramping during the workouts, he received the diagnosis that that led to the appendectomy.

Cincinnati’s preseason opener is Aug. 12 against the Arizona Cardinals but the real target is having him completely healthy on Sept. 11 when the Bengals open the 2022 season against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Burrow had a big season last year while leading the Bengals to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Los Angeles Rams. The NFL Comeback Player of the Year completed a league-high 70.4 percent of his passes while establishing franchise records of 4,611 passing yards and 34 touchdown passes. He was intercepted 14 times.

Backups Brandon Allen, Jake Browning and Drew Pitt are handling the quarterback workload at camp with Burrow sidelined.
