Dusan Lajovic recorded a 6-4, 7-6 (6) victory over fellow Serb and top-ranked Novak Djokovic on Friday in their quarterfinal match at the Srpska Open in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Lajovic, 32, saved 15 of 16 break points and three set points in the second-set tiebreak to stun the 22-time major champion in 2 hours, 29 minutes.
Lajovic will next face fellow Serb and fourth-seeded Miomir Kecmanovic, who posted a 7-5, 6-0 victory over sixth-seeded Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic.
Also on Friday, second-seeded Russian Andrey Rublev posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over local favorite Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Barcelona Open
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz recorded a 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory over 10th-seeded and fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a quarterfinal match in Spain.
The win was the second in a row versus a countryman for the top-seeded Alcaraz, who secured a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Roberto Bautista Agut on Thursday. Alcaraz will face 12th-seeded Daniel Evans of Great Britain in Saturday’s semifinals after Evans rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over 15th-seeded Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina.
Second-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece advanced following a 6-4, 6-2 victory over eighth-seeded Alex de Minaur of Australia.
Lorenzo Musetti moved on with a walkover in his match versus fellow Italian Jannik Sinner (illness).
BMW Open
Top-seeded Holger Rune cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Chile’s Cristian Garin in a quarterfinal match in Munich, Germany.
Rune, 19, improved to 7-0 in Germany and 3-0 versus Garin in ATP head-to-head play by winning their match in 1 hour, 33 minutes. He will face Australian Christopher O’Connell, who upset Germany’s Alexander Zverev earlier this week and notched a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3 win over Italian Flavio Cobolli.
Second-seeded Taylor Fritz posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Austrian Dominic Thiem. Thiem had previously advanced earlier on Friday by completing a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win over eighth-seeded Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler.
Fourth-seeded Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands seized a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Marcos Giron.
