As the Houston Astros gear up for another postseason run, All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa is now taking the first big step to potentially rejoin the team before playoff baseball hits in October.
Houston announced Correa will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Friday night as he progresses from the back injury he suffered in late August.
Before landing on the 10-day injured list on Aug. 20, Correa posted a .278/.358/..556 slash line with 19 home runs, 56 RBI and a .914 OPS across 270 at-bats.
The All-Star shortstop has overcome multiple injuries this season that have caused him to miss significant time. Now he is on the road back and could rejoin Houston shortly.
If Correa avoids any setbacks during a brief rehab assignment, Houston could activate him off the injured list next week. Correa’s return would make an already great team even more dangerous in the postseason.
