Arby’s wants to give away curly fries, but the Detroit Red Wings aren’t obliging. So, the restaurant has come up with a creative solution.
ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski notes Arby’s has changed its classic promotion. Rather than withholding fries until a Red Wings player scores a hat trick, Arby’s is settling for when Detroit scores three goals as a team.
It’s a rough time in Hockeytown.
According to Wyshynski, an Arby’s spokesman said the chain realized hat tricks are rare and wanted to reward fans of the restaurant and the Wings. Detroit hasn’t enjoyed a three-goal explosion from a player since December 2016.
So, the change is reasonable. But it’s also a reflection of Arby’s management knowing it won’t be giving out fries all year, since the Wings lack scoring talent. Through nine games, Detroit has mustered just three games of three-plus goals.
While the team is excited about prospects Filip Zadina and Joe Veleno, the NHL roster is short on proven scorers. Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha, Andreas Athanasiou and Gus Nyquist aren’t enough to get three goals regularly.
Congrats, Red Wings. Even Arby’s knows you stink.
