Los Angeles Angels manager Phil Nevin received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for his conduct following his club’s series-opening loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night, Major League Baseball announced.
Nevin, who is in his second season managing the Angels, will serve his suspension in Saturday afternoon’s game against the Blue Jays.
Nevin was visibly upset over a called third strike on Michael Stefanic in the top of the ninth inning of Los Angeles’ 4-1 setback on Friday. Nevin confronted the umpires after the game, only to be restrained by Angels bench coach Ray Montgomery.
The suspension is the second in the managerial career for Nevin, who was banned 10 games last season for his role in his team’s benches-clearing brawl against the Seattle Mariners.
