The National Basketball Players Association is appointing Andre Iguodala as its acting executive director, it announced Thursday.
Iguodala replaces Tamika Tremaglio, who is stepping down to pursue other opportunities. Tremaglio held the position since January 2021.
Iguodala, 39, retired in October after a 19-year playing career that included four NBA titles with the Golden State Warriors.
He spent much of his playing career involved in the NBPA. He was on the NBPA executive committee from 2010-2017, and his four-year term as first vice president ended last February.
The NBPA said in a statement Thursday that Iguodala and Tremaglio would be “working closely during this transition period.” It was unclear when Tremaglio will officially step aside. Under her tenure, she helped steer negotiations in the latest round of collective bargaining with the league.
Iguodala, a 2012 All-Star and the 2015 NBA Finals MVP, averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game across 1,231 career games with the Philadelphia 76ers (2004-12), Denver Nuggets (2012-13), Warriors (2013-19, 2021-23) and Miami Heat (2019-21).
