Kyle Lowry has joined his hometown 76ers, with his expected move to Philadelphia becoming official Tuesday night.

The six-time All-Star guard agreed to a contract buyout from the Charlotte Hornets over the weekend, paving the way for him to join the Sixers, as was initially reported Saturday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team. ESPN reported that Lowry, who turns 38 next month, will sign a $2.8 million deal for the rest of the season.

Lowry played his high school ball in Philadelphia before starring at Villanova. He also reunites with 76ers coach Nick Nurse, who coached Lowry when the pair was in Toronto.

Lowry played 37 games (35 starts) with the Miami Heat to start the season. He averaged 8.2 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals.

The Hornets acquired Lowry from the Miami Heat in the Terry Rozier trade last month, and the sides agreed Lowry wouldn’t play until after last week’s trade deadline.

It was not clear how soon Lowry would be able to make his Philadelphia debut, but the 76ers host the Heat on Wednesday in their final game before the All-Star break.

The 76ers said Lowry will wear his familiar No. 7 jersey with the team, and Mo Bamba will change his jersey to No. 5.

In 1,115 games (866 starts) over 18 seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies (2006-09), Houston Rockets (2009-12), Raptors (2012-21) and Heat, Lowry has averaged 14.4 points, 6.2 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game.
