Quite literally. PGA pro and two-time major winner John Daly admitted to Ewan Murray of The Guardian that he smokes two packs of cigarettes and drinks about a 12-pack of Diet Coke per day. The good news here is that Daly, notorious for being a heavy drinker, is now sober.Â
Looking at before and after photos, it shows…
Image on the left is from January of this year while the image on the right is from 2010. Notice how that beer belly has gone the way of Daly’s golf career? Extinct.
The larger issue at hand here is those two packs of cigs, likely Camel non-filter, knowing Daly’s mentality. How he can walk 18 holes without crawling up in a fetal position on the green, I will never know.
It also reminds me of those who say golf isn’t a sport and golfers aren’t athletes. If you’re able to do your job while smoking two packs of cigs a day, it’s hard to imagine you actually being considered an athlete.
I just wonder if Daly is standing in the mens bathroom with a cig hanging out of his mouth and a Coke in his right hand. After all, 12 cans a day and you might as well set up shop there.
In all seriousness, congratulations to Daly for his sobriety. Next up some Doublemint Gum instead of the stogies? His breath can only hope.
