One week remains until the official start of the 2020 NFL regular season. It’s been a long off-season around the league. That’s especially true when it comes to former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney.
As you likely already know, the three-time Pro Bowler remains a free agent. That’s primarily due to Clowney originally overvaluing himself on the market after an injury-plagued first (and likely only) season with the Seattle Seahawks.
We now might be nearing an end to this saga.
Saints “sending an all-out blitz” to sign Jadeveon Clowney
The puns are certainly strong in this report. Apparently, Saints head coach Sean Payton has taken an active involvement in courting one of the game’s most-talented pass rushers. That could certainly play a role in Clowney’s decision-making process.
Would Jadeveon Clowney be a fit with the Saints?
The answer to this question is a resounding yes. New Orleans boasts one of the most-underrated defensive ends in the game in that of Cameron Jordan. It also has talented former first-round pick Marcus Davenport on the other side of the line.
Clowney could conceivably come in and play strong-side linebacker for the Saints, providing them with a trio of near three-down pass rushers. He could also take over for Davenport as the starter with the latter moving to a part-time role after dealing with injuries throughout the first two years in the NFL.
Prior to his stint with Seattle last season, the 27-year-old Clowney had recorded a combined 59 quarterback hits, 53 tackles for loss and 24.5 sacks in his final three years with the Houston Texans.
It will be interesting to see if anything comes to fruition on this front here soon.
