It’s been a few months since Devonta Freeman was released by the Atlanta Falcons, and he’s itching to find a new team as soon as possible.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared Tuesday evening that Freeman has hired NFL super agent Drew Rosenhaus.
“We want to work out a deal in the immediate future, and we are open to any team,” Rosenhaus said. “He’s healthy, he’s in shape, and I’m on a mission to have him give a team a lift in late July.”
This is a stark turn from where we last saw Freeman.

Back in May, Freeman was one of the running backs the Seattle Seahawks were looking to potentially sign. Ultimately, they picked up former San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns back Carlos Hyde, who inked a one-year contract worth $4 million.
Freeman, per Mike Silver of NFL.com, felt he was worth more money than that and was willing to skip the 2020 season if his contract demands weren’t met.
Afterward, Freeman fired his agent. Now he’s signed on with Rosenhaus, who has a long history of getting players big-time money.
Devonta Freeman puts up great stats when healthy but has a history of injuries
As noted by both Adam Caplan and Silver, it seems unlikely that Freeman is going to get a bigger contract than the one the Seahawks were offering. The reason being that he’s coming off two straight frustrating campaigns that were defined by injuries.
When healthy, however, Freeman has been electric. During his tenure with the Falcons, he made two Pro Bowls. He also put up big-time stats, rushing for 4,357 yards and 35 touchdowns during a three-season stretch between 2015-17.
If the former Florida State product truly is healthy and can stay that way, he has plenty to offer to a team in need of a running back.
