Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien spoke with members of the media Wednesday and opened up about the death of George Floyd, among other things.
The Floyd family has been outspoken against the violence that has sometimes taken center stage as others attempt to peacefully protest the death of Floyd, and so many other African-Americans in police custody.
“First of all, first of all,” Terrence Floyd said recently while speaking with protesters in Minneapolis. “If I’m not over here wilin’ out, if I’m not over here blowing up stuff, if I’m not over here messing up my community — then what are y’all doing? Nothing, because that’s not going to bring my brother back at all.”
O’Brien shared his immense respect for the family of George Floyd as a whole, calling it “an unbelievable example for this country.”
He also is doing something extra to show his support for the family, and players on his team.
Texans will not hold virtual meetings on day of George Floyd’s funeral
Speaking with media on Wednesday, O’Brien said the Texans will not hold any virtual meetings on the day of George Floyd’s funeral. He is also encouraging players to attend, if it’s possible, per James Palmer of NFL Network.
O’Brien also shared that he has spoken many times with Kenny Stills, who’s been one of the players who has consistently taken a knee during the anthem.
Star quarterback Deshaun Watson was on hand Tuesday for a protest in Houston, which was led by the Floyd family.
The Texans are clearly all in with the Floyd family, and all the other Americans protesting police violence against people of color in this nation.
When is George Floyd’s funeral?
There will be multiple funeral services across the nation for George Floyd.
The first will take place in Minneapolis, where he was killed, on Thursday, June 4, per CNN. The memorial service will take place at the Frank J. Lindquist Sanctuary at North Central University. The Rev. Al Sharpton will deliver a eulogy at that memorial.
Then on Saturday, a public viewing and private memorial service will take place in Raeford, North Carolina, where his sister lives.
Then next Monday, June 9, a public memorial will be held in Houston. On Tuesday, a private service will be held at an undisclosed location, per CNN.
