Report: Ravens talking extensions with two star players

Despite their brutal loss in the AFC Divisional Playoffs last season, the Baltimore Ravens’ Super Bowl window appears to be wide open.

What Baltimore has done this offseason to not only keep its core together but add star power seems to suggest contention over the long haul.

This latest piece of information from ESPN’s Jamison Hensley (courtesy of Ravens GM Eric DeCosta) only adds to that. The insider reports that Baltimore is discussing contract extensions with stud left tackle Ronnie Stanley and Pro Bowl pass rusher Matt Judon.

A top-six pick back in 2016, Stanley has started all 56 games in which he’s appeared in four seasons. He was among the top tackles in the entire game last season. The Notre Dame product is set to play out the fifth-year option on his rookie deal at a value of $12.87 million.

Once signed, Stanley’s extension will more than likely make him the highest-paid tackle in the game. It’s a deal that will surpass the $22 million Laremy Tunsil is earning in his recently-signed extension with the Houston Texans.

As for Judon, he’s set to play under the franchise tag in 2020 at a value of $15.83 million. The former mid-round pick is coming off a 2019 campaign that saw him record 33 quarterback hits, 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. Judon’s new deal should net him in excess of $20 million annually.

It would be a lot to pay. But these are two key players in the Ravens’ hopes of long-term contention under reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.
