CeeDee Lamb to wear iconic number with Cowboys?

CeeDee Lamb, Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys drafted wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with the No. 17 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Despite the team having other needs, owner Jerry Jones recognized the value of grabbing one of the most talented players in the class.

Jones is so confident in Lamb’s unique abilities that he bestowed an incredible honor on the rookie to welcome him to the NFL.

An iconic number

Lamb wanted to wear No. 10 to begin his NFL career, providing him with a fresh opportunity to prove himself at the highest level. Jones dreamed of even bigger things, asking Lamb to wear the No. 88 on his back.

The number carries tremendous history and respect for the Cowboys. Drew Pearson, Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant each wore the iconic number during their time in Dallas and lived up to the number’s incredible significance with their remarkable play.

While Lamb seemed hesitant to follow in the direct footsteps of those before him, he ultimately had a change of heart. The incredible honor is fitting for a truly gifted player and the number could be even more meaningful this year.

An incredible honor

The No. 88 carries special significance in Dallas and it also holds a place in Jones’ heart for a different reason. It dates back to his memories as a player at Arkansas and his time with a friend and teammate he recently lost, who incredibly shares a last name with the newest Cowboy.

Jones’ decision to draft Lamb will carry even more significance moving forward. He saw Lamb’s incredible talent and knew he would not just help the team, but would be the perfect person to honor his friend and all those that wore the No. 88 before.
