Trevor Lawrence and his girlfriend, Marissa Mowry, set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for victims of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Matt Connolly of The State, before even one day was up, they were forced to take it down due to NCAA rules that prohibit student-athletes from using their name, image and likeness for crowd funding, per a Clemson official.
Before being forced to shut down, the GoFundMe account had raised $2,670.
UPDATE: The NCAA will not block them from raising money
Mowry shared a video on her Instagram account, confirming they had to take it down due to NCAA rules before the NCAA reversed course.
“Unfortunately Trevor cannot be a part of this anymore due to compliance and some rules, so he can’t help out anymore,” she said. “And also we have to take down the GoFundMe page.”
The money that had already been raised will be donated to Meals on Wheels and No Kid Hungry, which Lawrence said “is super awesome.”
Now, they are working to figure out what the next step will be going forward.
