The D.C. Defenders of the rebooted XFL won their inaugural game on Saturday, taking out the Seattle Dragons in front of a rather big crowd at Audi Field.
It was the initial game on the XFL slate and drew north of three million viewers on ABC.
What’s even more interesting is the fact that ticket prices for the Defenders’ next game against the New York Guardians range from $24 to $170 on Ticketmaster.
That’s more expensive than it cost to get into multiple Washington Redskins games this past season. It was just back in November that Skins’ fans could get into a game against the Detroit Lions for as cheap as $5.00.
This is definitely a bad look for the Redskins and owner Daniel Snyder. It also goes to show us that fans in the nation’s capital are hungry for successful football.
If the Defenders can provide that during the spring, they’ll likely continue to draw pretty nice crowds. As for the Redskins, they have shaken things up big time following a 3-13 season.
