The Houston Astros heard plenty of criticism and anger from their peers after MLB’s investigation found they cheated during the 2017 and ’18 seasons. Now with spring training underway, the Astros heard the overwhelming anger from baseball fans in their first spring training game on Saturday against the Washington Nationals.
The team took the field at FITTEAM Ballpark, their home stadium during the spring, and it didn’t take long for fans to let them hear it. The moment the public address announcer welcomed the Astros to the field, fans in attendance unleashed a chorus of boos onto the Astros.
It’s one thing to start spring training by facing the team that beat you in the World Series, but it’s a whole new level of uncomfortable to hear boos as the home team. To make matters worse, fans in attendance also brought some signs to troll the players when they hit the diamond.
Of course, it’s something the players should get used to this season whenever they hit the road. The Astros will have a target on their back this season from opposing pitchers and the treatment from fans won’t be any easier.
