The National College Players Association issued a statement discussing the Coronavirus Saturday and urged the NCAA to “take precautions” ahead of March Madness.
Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated shared the statement on Twitter. In it the NCPA wrote that “Precautions should include all auxiliary events that put players in contact with crowds such as meet and greets and press events,” adding that “there should be a serious discussion about holding competitions without an audience present.”
Globally, many sporting events have either been cancelled or held without spectators present in the wake of the Coronavirus’ spread.
New cases of the Coronavirus have been popping up around the United States this week. Worldwide, there are over 85,000 confirmed cases and nearly 3,000 deaths, and the United States has started to see cases that did not originate from overseas, meaning the Coronavirus is starting to spread throughout the population.
