San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, like the rest of his team, has a bitter taste in his mouth. Players went through meetings on Wednesday to wrap up what was a successful and ultimately disappointing season in Northern California.
Set to hit free agency months after being acquired by San Francisco, Sanders talked about watching the team’s late collapse against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV. He drew up a pretty spot on comparison.
“It’s like watching the Titanic and you hope the ship just doesn’t sink,” Sanders said, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. “And for some reason, the ship keeps sinking over and over.”
Sanders is not wrong. His 49ers were up 10 points with just over six minutes remaining in the game before eventual Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes led Kansas City to 21 unanswered points to close the game out. It was among the most epic collapses in the history of the big game.
As for Sanders’ plans in free agency, the former Pro Bowler says he has not even thought about that yet. The loss is still too raw.
