Super Bowl 54: 4K, streaming, and game time information

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will square off in Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, February 2 at 6:30pm EST, and free 4K streaming is available for the big game.

For the first time ever, 4K resolution presents the NFL’s grand finale in a stunning visual experience. All that’s required to access it is creating a profile on FoxSports.com or Fox Sports App (h/t to the TV Answer Man).

But since 4K requires its own compatible systems, you’ll need a TV and device that supports the enhanced resolution. As FoxSports.com shows, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV are compatible with 4K.

Users can also stream the Super Bowl from their smartphones or desktops on the aforementioned Fox Sports media. Another option? Wait until closer to Super Bowl Sunday kickoff, and get 4K streaming on fuboTV with a 7-day free trial.

Now that we’ve covered the bases on cord-cutters’ best Super Bowl streaming options, let’s take a quick look at the matchup itself.

Great defense vs. a transcendent quarterback

All the narratives and pre-kickoff storylines can be encapsulated in the subheading above.

San Francisco’s Kyle Shanahan has always been a wunderkind play-caller. In his third year at the helm of the 49ers, they’ve finally taken off. A big reason is his reliance on the rushing attack and zone-blocking running schemes, which devastate defenses on a regular basis.

On the opposite sideline, Chiefs coach Andy Reid is a offensive wizard in his own right. However, Reid is less reliant on the run, frequently showing a penchant to air it out. Pass-happy tactics have cost Reid in prior postseason, but that’s different nowadays.

What’s different? Reid has never had a quarterback as good as Patrick Mahomes. When it’s all said and done, maybe no one ever will have.

Mahomes lifted Kansas City to two comebacks in its prior two playoff contests. It’s important to understand just how impressive that is — and in the first one, he was in a 24-0 deficit.

The superstar signal-caller led the team in rushing each time and threw eight touchdowns against zero interceptions.

Other than perhaps New England, though, this is the toughest defense Mahomes and Co. will have faced all year. The 49ers defensive front is all first-round picks: Nick Bosa, Dee Ford, DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas.

Picking the Super Bowl LIV champion

Tennessee didn’t send a lot of blitzes on Mahomes in the AFC Championship Game and got picked apart. San Francisco likely doesn’t have to send extra men to put the heat on Mahomes.

What this game will come down to is how Mahomes evades pressure against the Niners’ vaunted pass rush and whether his counterpart, Jimmy Garoppolo, can make a few big-time throws to put his team over the top.

Defense wins championships, and I think San Francisco is the better team. However, Mahomes is too good, the Chiefs have too many weapons and Reid is too overdue for a first Super Bowl that K.C. will pull it out to give “Big Red” his first Lombardi Trophy.

Prediction: Chiefs 31, 49ers 27
