Report: Giants request permission to interview Jason Garrett for OC position

After missing out on top candidate Matt Rhule, who is set to join the Carolina Panthers, the New York Giants are moving forward with their coaching search and targeting an interview with Jason Garrett.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, New York requested permission from the Dallas Cowboys to interview Garrett. While he is no longer the Cowboys head coach, he remains under contract until Jan. 14.

Garrett, who was informed on Sunday that he wouldn’t return to Dallas, posted an 85-67 as the Cowboys head coach. During his nearly 10 full seasons in Dallas, the team made the playoffs three times and recorded eight-plus wins in eight different seasons.

UPDATE – 11:30 a.m. EST

After hiring New England Patriots special teams coordinator Joe Judge as their head coach, the Giants are reportedly targeting Garrett to serve as offensive coordinator on Judge’s staff.
