Benjamin Watson came out of retirement when the New England Patriots needed him this season. Now, the 39-year-old tight end has revealed just how much pain he played through to team up with Tom Brady.
Watson revealed on Instagram that he played through a torn Achilles this season, crediting Brady’s TB12 body coach Joseph Koudelka for helping keep him on the field.
New England signed Watson on Oct. 14 due to a lack of pass-catching options at tight end. He took the field a week later and played in 10 games during the 2019 season. Watson hauled in 17 receptions for 173 receiving yards during the regular season and caught three passes in the wild card round.
Brady’s TB12 training has been a hit with several NFL players. It’s great to see that Watson was able to benefit from it, fighting through pain and playing on an injury that would normally be season-ending for many other athletes.
